CAPITOL HILL (DC)

Capitol Hill is not just the building where the U.S. government does business. It’s also one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. It’s a busy tourism destination, home to the Supreme Court, Capitol, and the Library Congress. As a neighborhood, it offers a vibrance of its own. It’s a social location with a strong nightlife.

The Capitol Hill real estate market isn’t as simple as it may seem. There are numerous rowhouses here, many of which have a historical charm to them. There are also some newer condo developments and an apartment building or two. Elegant properties, many with well-maintained yards, are very common here. Quintessential Colonial style is present throughout the neighborhoods.

Though it’s a bustling, busy city, especially thanks to the tourism in the area, Capitol Hill is quite a tight-knit community. Within its neighborhoods, it’s relaxed and inviting, with strong energy and a sense of innovation. It’s not uncommon to get to know neighbors and enjoy time socializing at the area’s bistros and upscale lounges. There’s a strong nightlife here, including live music, theater, and excellent restaurants and bars. While the area’s history may be strong, those living here are thriving in a modern community.

DINING, ENTERTAINMENT & SHOPPING:
Finding a place to grab a meal isn’t as difficult as many would think. Tune Inn is a solid example. It’s a popular hangout with comfort food. Another noted establishment is Hawk ‘N’ Dove, an American cuisine restaurant that’s based on an older Washington where politics happened over a glass of beer. Ted’s Bulletin is the type of place where patrons can enjoy a modern American menu, including all-day breakfast. Rose’s Luxury is a fabulous, eclectic restaurant that offers a small plate menu.

Eastern Market is also in Capitol Hill and is quite a unique location. It’s an outdoor and indoor establishment offering food and community events. There’s also a farmer’s market here on the weekends.

THINGS TO DO:
There’s quite a bit to explore when it comes to things to do in Capitol Hill. It’s easy enough to do some sightseeing with the Capitol Building, Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court, all located within the neighborhood. There’s also the Folgers Shakespeare Library, which features the largest collections of works by William Shakespeare in the world. Any of these locations are worth exploring not just once but numerous times to get a feel for the country’s and the region’s history.

Outside of that, there are numerous other benefits to living in Capitol Hill. First, it’s close to everything. The Eastern Market is the hub of activity here. It’s also the location of the Eastern Market Metro Station, which can take guests throughout the region.

Lincoln Park is a good starting point for those hoping to explore the outdoors. It’s home to numerous monuments, including those to honor President Abraham Lincoln and Civil Rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune. It also offers a lot of open green space. Stranton Park is another local park established in 1791. There’s playground equipment here, monuments, walking paths, and ample open space. Folger Park is one of the largest parks in the area. It’s a quiet park in a more residential area of the city, but perfect for those who love nature.
